Crucifix-shaped pendant watch, probably by Jean Cusin
–
A Swiss silver, metal and rock crystal crucifix-form watch, circa 1630. Gilt cruciform full plate movement, adorned with decorative hybrid pillars, a chain fusée, a verge escapement, a three-armed steel balance, and pierced and engraved cock. The silver dial features an engraved Roman chapter and a central town scene, while the silver cruciform engraved dial plate showcases intricate craftsmanship. The bottom part of the dial depicts Jesus carrying his cross. The watch is encased in metal-mounted rock crystal, hinged at the top and complemented by a plain pendant and ring. This timepiece is believed to have been crafted by the Swiss watchmaker Jean Cusin, who lived between 1585 and 1656. The movement of the watch is elegantly signed with the initials J. Cusin.
