Gold “Trip Repeater” watch by Patek Philippe & Cie

A very fine and rare, large, 18K yellow gold, trip minute repeating, keyless dress watch, with button in the crown, circa 1900. Rhodium plated movement, Geneva stripes, tandem winding, 30 jewels, counterpoised and calibrated straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating the hours, quarter hours and minutes with two hammers on two gongs activated by depressing a button in the crown. Polished case. Hinged gold cuvette.
18 Carat gold case with Repoussé foliate and flower decor on a chased ground, florally engraved band and pendant, gold dome, pusher for chronograph at “1” and pusher for repetition via pendant. Gold engine turned dial White enamel dial, black Breguet numerals, outer minute track, Arabic five minute markers painted in red, subsidiary seconds. Gold “Louis XVI” hands. Dial, case and movement signed.

Patek Philippe started making double-train trip repeaters around 1900 and continued producing them, in very limited quantities, over the next 25 years. There are fewer than thirty of them known.
