Exquisite watch probably made for Cartier
–
An exquisite and possibly unique platinum with diamonds dress watch with extract from the archives, probably made for Cartier by Patek Philippe in Plan-les-Ouates, Genève, Switzerland, circa 1929. Crafted from platinum, the open faced case is hallmarked twice with the French Platinum hallmark (dog’s head) and the rim and bracket are adorned with diamonds. The crown is set with a pearl, presumably from Verger Paris, adding an elegant touch to this already stunning piece. The dial is an extremely rare Breguet type, featuring applied platinum hour numerals in the “Grec” style. A subsidiary seconds dial is located at 6 o’clock and the hands are of the Breguet variety. The precision of this timepiece is unparalleled, with an extra flat quality Patek Philippe precision lever escapement and Geneva striping.
The dial and movement are both signed and the latter is also numbered 823.620.

The 2020 extract from the archives confirms the originality of the watch and the special dial with platinum Breguet numerals. The dial is an indication that the movement and dial were ordered from Patek Philippe for a platinum watch. Like Tiffany, Cartier ordered movements for certain pocket watches from Patek Philippe. Even if the watch itself is not signed Cartier, the design of the case, especially the crown and the French Platinum hallmark indicate that this watch may have been made for Cartier.
