Gold hunting cased keyless lever chronograph watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased five minute repeating keyless lever watch with chronograph, calendar, and moon phases, retailed by Juan Sabalain, Buenos Aires, circa 1900. Nickel lever movement with 25 jewels, featuring a cut and compensated bimetallic balance and a revolving governor, repeating on gongs. The watch has a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, and an additional outer track for chronograph seconds. It includes blued steel Cathedral hands, a calendar dial at 12 o’clock, and apertures for the day of the week and month at the centre. The watch also displays the phases of the moon and subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock. The gold cuvette is signed by Juan Sabalain, Buenos Aires. The case is engine turned with an engraved monogram on the front, beaded edges, and push buttons on the band.

The dial is noticeably dirty, and the subsidiary dial has a crack between the 30 mark and the moon phase section. The engine turning shows some wear around the edges, and there might be a minor repair on the band at the 12 o’clock position. The watch ticks, repeats, and the chronograph hand functions and resets when wound.
