Unsigned oversized gold and enamel repeating clock watch
–
A rare oversized Swiss gold and enamel quarter repeating grande and petite sonnerie automaton clock watch, circa 1900. This watch features a highly jewelled, damascened, two train movement with a lever escapement. Some jewels are securely held in screwed gold chatons. It includes a bimetallic compensation balance and hammers that repeat on coiled gongs. The front of the watch has a central white enamel dial with Roman numerals and an eccentric running seconds hand. The background is engine turned and adorned with multicoloured polychrome enamel Jacquemart figures dressed in fanciful Swiss Guard attire, striking bells above. The heavy case is made of 18 carat gold and has a glazed cuvette. The band includes slides for controlling silence/sonnerie and grande/petite functions. The case back is marked with Swiss hallmarks for 18 carat gold and is numbered 2196.

The dial is in good order, with no chip on the enamel. The engine turning is a little dirty around the edge. Case with a small, shallow dent. Movement running and repeating, though, may benefit from a service.
–
Grande and petite sonnerie clockwatches dating to the late 19th century and the early years of the 20th century are rare, especially those with the addition of automaton figures.
