Gold hunting cased pocket watch by Barbezat-Baillot, “Le Phare”

A Swiss fine, heavy hunting cased quarter repeating pocket watch with chronograph, full calendar and moon phase for the Russian market, circa 1900.
14 carat rose gold, engine turned, à goutte case with signed gold dome, pusher for chronograph at “2”, pusher for repeating mechanism at “6” and glazed movement. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, moon phase, windows for weekday and month with Cyrillic letters, date indicator, centre chronograph and Louis XVI hands. 1/2 plate movement, frosted, gilt, “Patent 13244”, with finely ground and bevelled chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, governor for repetition and screw compensation balance.

Brand name
On November 30, 1888 , Barbezat-Baillot, Charles-Ami registered the brand name Le Phare (= the lighthouse) in Le Locle , which he used as the company name from 1905 . 1896 Completion of the factory building complex, which with constant additions to the original house of Ch.Barbezat-Baillot from 1883 the production facilities had to constantly expand in response to increasing demand. The company now has 200 employees. Barbezat-Baillot was a brilliant watchmaker and inventor and had a large number of patents registered. The Swiss patent 334 was one of the most important inventions of Barbezat-Baillot and includes the use of centrifugal force in the repetition mechanism.
Today it belongs to Renley Watch SA.
