Blackened steel open faced musical watch by Albert Didisheim & Frères

A heavy Swiss blackened steel open faced musical pocket watch, circa 1905. Glazed ½ plate pinned barrel musical movement, Swiss Patent No. 6776, cylinder escapement, brass ring balance. White enamel dial radial time indication with Roman hours and outer minute divisions at 12 o’clock, decoration underneath. The case back is decorated with a very fine gold relief showing Switzerland’s national hero Wilhelm Tell. Case and movement numbered.

The Swiss watch manufacturer Henri-Albert Didisheim took over the company M & E Didisheim in Saint-Imier with his brothers Charles, Edgar and Hippolyte. In 1889 the company’s name was changed to Albert Didisheim & Frères and in 1895 it was renamed Henri-Albert Didisheim at that time, based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The brand name Marvin was deposited under the direction of Henri-Albert.

The movement is based on the Swiss invention ‘système de raquette permettant un grand déplacement des goupilles’ Patent No. 6776 delivered on June 13th, 1893 to Albert Didisheim & Frères, La Chaux-de-Fonds.
