Dürrstein & Co was founded in 1874 with the sole purpose of marketing the timepieces made by A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte. In addition to the highly-priced Lange watches and soon the more reasonably priced Deutsche Uhrenfabrikation Glashütte pieces, Dürrstein eventually extended its range to include its own brands such as ‘Monopol’ or ‘Union Glashütte’ as well as other high-quality Swiss timepieces such as this Zenith model. The complicated movement has a two-way winding system for the watch and the striking mechanism with a carillon striking on three gongs and was developed by Zenith around 1910.
