A rare Austrian copper and silver pair-cased quarter repeating duplex coach clock with alarm, circa 1810. Later custom-made full plate movement, two barrels, three hammers, double wheel duplex escapement, three-arm steel balance.  Fire-gilded brass dial with Roman hours, outer minute track, the centre engraved with foliage and a central alarm hand. The copper and silver outer case with an applied silver ornament and sound holes, the silver inner case is pierced and elaborately engraved, a wicker basket filled with flowers and fruit surrounded by a frame of rocailles and cartouches on the back, a rear bell and pusher for the repetition. Signed movement.

The two cases of this watch originally date from the early 18th century and were fitted with an updated movement by Franz Lehrner around 1810.

Franz Lehrner was born in 1770 in Zistersdorf and died in 1847 in Sieghartskirchen. He was a watchmaker in Vienna and specialized in large timekeepers such as long case clocks and ‘Dachluhren’, a particular Viennese style clock where the top part has the shape of a rooftop.
