An exceptional Swiss fire gilded brass verge oignon pocket watch with a phantom pendulum balance, circa 1700. Full plate movement, an applied enamel medallion showing a polychrome enamel portrait of a lady dressed as a shepherdess with a small pendulum in the form of a star, chain and fusee, a three arm steel balance. The chased and punched fire gilt dial with figurative decoration in the centre, white enamel cartouches with blue Roman hours and black five minute numerals, decorative hands. A shagreen covered case with ornamental nail decoration. Movement signed and numbered.

François Terroux (1664-1743), son of Gabriel Terroux, was an apprentice to Jean-François Lachis from 1677 and became a master in 1684. Terroux was known for his pocket watches with polychrome enamel decorations, executedç by well known enamel painters such as the Frères Huaud or Jean André.
