A fine Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased quarter repeating chronograph lever pocket watch, circa 1900.1/2 Plate movement, two hammers, two gongs, Barbezat Baillot’s Swiss Patent 13244 Poussette pour montres, Barbezat Baillot’s Swiss Patent 334 Perfectionnements apportés à la construction des mécanismes de répétition pour montres de poche de toutes dimensions, a piston tooth lever escapement and screw compensation balance. A gold cuvette with the dedication engraving Presented to Capt. K.C. Wright by the officers non-com., officers and men of the Uniondale Town Guard and District Mtd. Troops 4.7.1901. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute and fifth of a second track, Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds and spade & whip hands. A plain case with the monogram KCW on the front. Case and movement numbered. Comes with the original presentation box.

In 1888, Barbezat-Baillot established the brand Le Phare (the lighthouse in English), which he used as the company name from 1905. Barbezat-Baillot was a brilliant watchmaker and inventor and registered numerous patents. The Swiss patent 334 was one of his most important inventions and involves the use of centrifugal force in the repetition mechanism.
