Gold enamelled pocket watch

An English 18 carat gold and enamel pair cased pocket watch, circa 1776. The gilt full plate movement with a verge escapement, decoratively pierced and engraved balance cock, round baluster pillars, and chain and fusee. Later white enamel dial with Roman hours, outer minute divisions, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and spade hands. A chased and engraved outer case, both bezels with blue champlevé enamel decoration, the back with central en grisaille enamel depicting an urn on a pink ground within a blue and white champlevé enamel border of flowers and foliage, London hallmarked for 1777-1778 and with maker’s mark IW for, likely, John Wright or John Ward, a gilt dust ring, the plain inner case with an aperture for winding on the back, and identical hallmarks and makers’ mark as the outer case. Movement signed and numbered.
