Pocket watch with musical movement
–
A gold cylinder watch with repeater and musical movement, made circa 1820. The case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, bears the maker’s CHI and is engine turned on the back. The gold coloured dial features an outer track with minute division, Roman hour numerals, steel hands and is engine turned in the center. The unusual and rare lépine calibre is fitted with a cylinder escapement, a visible striking mechanism and musical movement, which is activated on the hour and can also be switched off and the repeater strikes the hours and quarters when the pendant is pressed.

In the context of a high complication watch (cylinder escapement, repeater, and musical movement) from approximately 1820, the initials CHI could refer to Charles-Hubert Isaac, or more broadly, represent a mark of the Isaac family of watchmakers, based in Geneva, Switzerland.
