Gold quarter repeater
–
An exceptionally large skeletonized cylinder pocket watch with striking mechanism made in Switzerland, circa 1820. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold and has a back lid with a curious engraved representation of a table with a globe, scientific instruments and a ‘lost head’. The watch is double glazed on the face, providing a view to the striking train, has a white enamel chapter ring with Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track and blued steel arrow hands. The technically highly interesting skeletonized movement has a cylinder escapement and repeats the quarter hours.
