Peter Litherland was a British watchmaker and inventor. He was born in Warrington and moved later to Liverpool, the centre of the watch trade at that time. In 1791 he patented the rack lever escapements for watches, which were more precise than the usual lever escapements.
Original pocket watches with rack lever escapements signed by Litherland are very rare.
