An extremely rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced cylinder pocket watch, circa 1820. Cylinder movement, striking mechanism on two coaxial bells. Massive 18 carat gold dial with Arabic hours and outer minute divisions, the centre engine-turned, gold Breguet hands. Case with a reeded band, glazed on both sides, multi-coloured gold automaton The Fountain on the back, black enamelled ground. The automaton with three functions, figures striking bells while the striking mechanism strikes the hours and quarter hours and the fountain is set in motion, the fountain begins in the mouth of the dolphin, in the foreground an altar with a dog, a scene of blossoms and a bowl with flaming fire.
