An almost new, heavy U.S. Navy deck watch with a 56-hour power reserve display, circa 1942. This watch is a chronometer with a nickel-matt, chrome-plated and marked case. The silver-plated dial features Arabic radial hours, an outer minutes track, a subsidiary dial for seconds, a power reserve display of 56 hours, and blue steel hands. The watch has a nickelled bridge movement with a going barrel, plain cock with polished steel micrometre regulator, uncut balance employing quarter timing nuts, overcoil hairspring, club foot lever escapement, and monometallic screw balance. It is signed as US NAVY-BU. SHIPS-1942 Chronometer Watch.

The Hamilton Watch Company was established in 1893 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, after emerging from the Adams & Perry Watch Company.

Hamilton Watch Company has a rich history that spans several decades. In 1928, it acquired Illinois Watch Company and in 1931, E. Howard Watch Company. In 1957, the company launched the first electrically powered ” Electric ” wristwatch. Hamilton acquired A. Huguenin & Fils watch factory in 1956 and the Büren Watch Company in 1966. The company produced the first electronic quartz watch with a digital L.E.D. display, the Pulsar model in 1970. However, watch production was stopped in 1972, and SSIH acquired the Hamilton brand.
