Marine chronometer Hamilton Model 22

An American marine chronometer from WWII made by Hamilton in Lancaster, Pennsylvania United States of America, circa 1942. This Hamilton model 22 has an open faced numbered plain case which is coated, screwed, has the original dome and was crafted from base metal. The original silvered dial has Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at six o’clock also with Arabic numerals, a power reserve indicator at twelve o’clock and blued steel hands. The numbered movement has a chronometer escapement with 21 jewels, is adjusted to temperature, has six positions and is marked “US Navy-BU Ships 1942”.
The dial and movement are signed.

Hamilton
The Hamilton Watch Company was established in 1893 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, after emerging from the Adams & Perry Watch Company. It has a rich history spanning several decades. In 1928, it acquired the Illinois Watch Company and in 1931, E. Howard Watch Company. In 1957, the company launched the first electrically powered ” Electric ” wristwatch. Hamilton acquired A. Huguenin & Fils watch factory in 1956 and the Büren Watch Company in 1966. The company produced the first electronic quartz watch with a digital L.E.D. display, the Pulsar model in 1970. However, watch production was stopped in 1972 and SSIH acquired the Hamilton brand.
