A fine French mahogany cased 49 hour going Marine chronometer with power reserve indication and ratchet key, circa 1895. Brass full plate movement, the barrel held by a detachable bridge, with tapered cylindrical pillars, reversed fusee with chain and maintaining power, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement (detent missing), two armed bimetallic compensation balance with large cylindrical temperature weights and meantime nuts, freesprung polished steel helical balance spring held in an adjustable stud, diamond endstone. Silvered dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and power reserve sector, original gilt brass spade hands. Mahogany box with external brass handles, glazed upper section with hinged lid, the middle section with applied bone signature plaque, brass circular gimbal and bowl. Dial and movement and box signed.
