Gold quarter repeating pocket watch by Benedict Furstenfelder

A very fine and very rare German gold pair cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1730. Allegory of Africa. Gilt full plate movement with square turned pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass three armed balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved single footed cock, blued steel endplate, blued steel and brass regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case. Gold dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track with each minute individually numbered 1-14 in each quarter hour, outermost large five minute Arabic numerals and original blued steel beetle and scroll hands. Outer case finely pierced, chased and engraved with symmetrical scrolls and strapwork, set with five foiled carnelian panels, the central one with a gold applied relief representing Africa, the four around the band applied with gold busts, the bezel decorated to match, the inner case with deep back, the band finely pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage including a lion, centred by a fruit cartouche. Dial signed Fecit, movement signed, cases with mastermark AG.
