A rare, very fine and heavy Australian minute repeating hunting cased pocket watch with chronograph, circa 1884.
18 carat gold polished case with gold dome, pusher for chronograph at “12” and slide for repeating mechanism. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, 60 min. counter, centre chronograph hand and blued spade hands. Frosted gilt 4/5 plate movement with screwed gold chatons, fine matted steel parts, ratchet wheel, applied rack strike with polished steel levers, gold screw compensation balance and counterpoised lever. Original mahogany box.

Flavelle Brothers and Roberts was based in Australia around 1880 with offices in Queen Street, Brisbane, George Street Sydney, Hatten Garden in London and on Rue Gaillon in Paris. It was a partnership between John Flavelle, Henry Flavelle and John Roberts. John Flavelle was a photographer who came to Australia around 1842.

The company was founded as an optics company around 1846 with George Brush and John Flavelle. In 1850 Brother Henry was in operation, and in 1686 John Roberts. Henry Flavelle came to Sydney with his wife and child in 1849. The ship “The Chartley Castle” also shipped a lot of goods, including new and innovative scientific instruments for the company.

The Flavelle Brothers and Roberts company was renamed Flavelle and Roberts in 1888 when Henry Flavelle passed away. In 1892 the company became an LTd and in 1900 / de | 1900 it was renamed Flavelle Bros Ltd after the death of John Flavelle in 1899 . In 1926 , Robert Sankey came into the business as a business partner. The company continued to run together with the sons of John Flavelle and Henry Flavelle. In 1932 the company was closed after the great crisis.
