Gold half quarter repeating verge

An early 18th century 18 carat gold English pair cased half quarter repeating verge watch by Johann Georg Nuarb (Braun), housed in very fine gold repoussé pair cases, circa 1720.

The full plate fire gilt movement is fitted with a silver dust cover bearing a royal coat of arms. It features a pierced and engraved masked cock with a blued regulator disc, fusee and chain, and turned baluster pillars. The plain three arm steel balance is paired with a blue steel spiral hairspring.

The gold dial is set with Roman and Arabic numerals and steel hands. The gold inner case is similarly decorated around the edge, while the handsomely worked 20 carat outer case is adorned with repoussé work.

Johann Georg Braun lived in Augsburg (Germany) 1712. Left Augsburg 1735. Many Pocket watches were sold at that time under a different signature in London, like Braun did, he used his name Braun but in reverse.
