Gold open faced key winding repeating cylinder watch
–
A fine Austrian 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch made by August Heckhel in Vienna, mid 18th century. It has a mechanical keywound fire gilded brass movement with a cylinder escapement, a chain driven fusee, and a silver regulator disc with an advance/delay rosette. The quarter repeating mechanism is activated via the pendant and includes a repetition speed adjustment. The balance cock is intricately hand pierced and centred with an old cut diamond endstone. And it is signed August Heckhel In Wienn on the movement plate.
–
The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, an outer minute track with Arabic fifteen minute numerals, gilt hands, and a key winding aperture. The dial is framed by an engraved surround reading August Heckhel à Wienn. The watch is housed in a round 18 carat yellow gold open faced case with engraved initials on the reverse back cover and the interior caseback hand engraved QUA’ MOI.
