Unsigned rock crystal octagonal pendant watch
–
An Austrian gilt brass and rock crystal octagonal verge watch in 17th century style, circa 1850. The gilded movement features a verge escapement, dumbbell balance, hog’s bristle type regulator set with a steel pin, stackfreed mounted to the backplate, a decoratively pierced and engraved barrel, turned pillars, and a backplate inscribed with the signature J Kapler, Wien 1583. The dial showcases a silver chapter ring with Roman numerals and half hour divisions in between, a gilded dial plate, and the centre is engraved with a pastoral scene, surrounded by scrolling foliage and a head above 12 o’clock, with a single blued steel turned baluster hand. The faceted rock crystal case is adorned with gilt metal mounts, a tulip form pendant, and a turned terminal.
