Silver Austrian coach clock with alarm by Bergauer

A very fine Vienna pair cased quarter repeating coach clock with alarm, circa 1760. Two cases: an outer silver, shagreen case with soundholes and a large lateral hinge and a signed silver inner case with a rear bell, a large lateral hinge, and the edge hand-engraved with foliate decor. The dial is enamel, with radial Roman hours, a central blued turnable alarm ring, and Louis XVI hands. The signed full plate movement is fire gilt and has a barrel/fusee, solid movement pillars, three hammers, a verge escapement, a three-arm iron ring balance, and a florally engraved and pierced balance bridge.

Johann Michael Pergauer (also Bergauer)
Pergauer was born in Vienna around 1717 and became a master in 1757. He was a clockmaker to the court in Vienna circa 1770; in 1771 his proposal of establishing a clock manufactory was rejected. In 1780, the imperial court awarded Pergauer the sum of 150gulden for a metal stamping machine. Pergauer died in 1791.
