Rose gold pocket chronometer

A fine and large English 18 carat rose gold open faced key wound pocket chronometer made by James McCabe in London, circa 1819. Full plate movement with an Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, a bimetallic balance with compensation weights, and finely pierced and engraved balance cock and foot. A gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and gold spade hands. A large case with the engraved initials AB and 1819 on the back. Case and cuvette stamped with the casemaker’s initials TW for Thomas Walker II and London date letter for 1819, dial and movement signed and numbered.
