Gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating automaton watch

A rare French 18 carat gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating keywound automaton watch, circa 1780-1799. Full plate gilt finished verge movement, chain fusée, pierced and engraved cock balance, quarter repeating on a hammer onto a bell in the case, activated through the crown, rounded pilasters. Central engine turned gilt dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, polychrome enamel village scene, multi colour gilt fisherman, dog and goat at a river, two putti individually striking bells for the hours and quarter, when activated the fisherman raises and lowers his arm, the river flows and a watermill turns. Polished case. Case numbered and stamped L.R.
