A French 18 carat yellow gold, enamel and pearl-set keywinding Directoire pocket watch, made by Gandoz in Paris, circa 1780. A decorative open faced pocket watch, quarter repeater by two hammers on one bell. The case back with green translucent enamel over guilloché, bezels set with a row of half-pearls.White enamel dial with suspended Arabic numerals, outer minute track and yellow gold pierced Jaquet-Droz hands. A full plate movement, gilded brass, with fusee and chain, verge escapement, monometallic balance (probably gilded brass) and blued steel flat hairspring, pierced and engraved gilded continental cock with polished steel end piece, silver regulator disc, repeater work on the main plate, under the dial. Signature on the dial and movement.
