Dutch watchmaker Paulus Bramer was probably born in 1696 to Bramer’s son, Willem Sr. Records show that he married in 1716; However, his name was first mentioned in an advertisement dated June 22, 1715, in which Bramer offered several watches for sale. Bramer was active in Amsterdam and an extremely productive watchmaker who manufactured table and grandfather clocks and small clocks. Bramer is particularly known for its intricate and ornate clocks – some of which are equipped with musical mechanisms and other complications such as moon phases and calendars.
On August 20, 1750, his son Jurriaan Bramerhis was a business partner in the company. From then on, the watches were signed with Paulus Bramer en Soon. Paulus Bramer had his business at the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal (show this place). Jurriaan Bramer had his workshop on the Kalverstraat near the Watersteeg. (show this place). Paulus Bramer died on April 29, 1770.
