Open faced, originally Dutch, verge pocket watch
–
A Dutch / English one-handed silver pair-cased verge pocket watch, circa 1650.
This watch consists a silver outer- and inner case, a silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals and one hand. It has a full plate movement, signed Jean Barenet London, a chain/fusee and a large three-arm brass balance.

Diameter: 54 mm
–
Weight: 119 g
–
Signed: Jean Barenet, London
–
Because of the French name and the “London” designation we assume that Jean Barenet was a Huguenot refugee. He is not listed as a member of the Clockmakers’ Company and the design of the movement implies that it is originally Dutch.

Signed: Jean Barenet, London
