An early English gilt and shagreen hour striking verge clockwatch, circa 1710.
Deep full plate firegilt quality movement with two round pillars and two Egyptian pillars, two barrels, one for time and one for striking, fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates, wound through the shuttered back, plain three armed steel balance with pierced and engraved balance cock with small vestigial wings, pierced and engraved foot, silver regulator disc. Striking of the hours on a bell in the case, slide in the inner case band to activate and deactivate striking.
Later white enamel dial with Roman numerals and Arabic outer, blued steel poker and beetle hands. Pierced and engraved movement band. Shagreen outer case.
