Gold five minute repeater by Henri Golay

A Swiss 18 Carat gold five minute repeating pocket watch, circa 1900. First class, complicated, rhodium plated movement with Geneva striping decoration in the finest Swiss quality, asymmetrical adjustable anchor escapement with visible stones, swan neck regulator, bi metallic compensation balance with screwed weights and blued Breguet spring, 5 minute repetition with two hammers on two gongs, large visible ruby stones, polished screws and steel parts. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, blued hands, small second and watchmaker’s mark. Plain case with elaborately engraved monogram ‘SJ’ to the back.

Henri Golay, co-founder of the company Golay-Leresche (later Golay Fils & Stahl). Among others Henri-Robert Ekegren, 1823-1896, worked in this company. Golay was the teacher of Louis-Elisée Piguet (1836-1924) and developed a self beating mechanism ‘Grande Sonnerie’.
