A very fine, English precision pocket watch, circa 1829.
18 carat gold polished case with case maker punch mark “WW” and signed movement protection cap. Enamel dial, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, numbered, signed, gold spade hands. Full plate movement, firegilt, signed and keywind, with chain/fusee, moulded pillars, English lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance, applied silver regulator scale and chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

John Barwise (1757 – 1842)
Barwise was one of London’s most renowned makers of precision watches and one of the few watchmakers who served as an expert on the Board of Longitude during the chronometer dispute between John Arnold and Thomas Earnshaw.
