Marine chronometer with rare display
–
A very early production example of an eight day marine chronometer by the renowned makers Parkinson & Frodsham, at 5 Budge Row London, England, circa 1820.  Housed in a brass case mounted within the original numbered mahogany box with brass fittings and gimbal suspension. The original silvered dial displays Roman hour numerals, a prominent subsidiary seconds dial positioned at 12 o’clock, a rare centrally mounted rotating power reserve indicator calibrated for eight days and the elegantly blued steel hands complete the classic and functional dial design.
The precision movement features a spring detent chronometer escapement with a helical balance spring, showcasing the high level of horological craftsmanship associated with Parkinson & Frodsham during this early period.
Both dial and box bear matching numbers, confirming the originality and integrity of this fine timekeeper and the dial is signed.

The probably original key is still in the box. Marine chronometers by the important London manufacturer Parkinson & Frodsham are in principle very rare and sought after collectors’ items. Early eight day chronometers of the Barraud design with rotating power reserve display, are real rarities.
