Marine chronometer in mahogany box

A very high quality marine chronometer made by Kelvin, White & Hutton in London, England, circa 1920. The numbered brass case, fitted into a three part mahogany box with recessed brass carrying handles and the original ivory company plate, with a gimbal suspension. The numbered silvered dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock and blued steel spade hands. The numbered movement has a spring detent escapement, helical hairspring and diamond endstone.
Box and dial have matching numbers and are signed.

Kelvin, White & Hutton was a London based watchmaking firm located at 11 Billiter Street from 1904 to 1937. The company specialized in high precision marine chronometers and other scientific instruments. It was a demerger from the Glasgow based firm Kelvin & James White Ltd.
