Gilt brass verge with centre seconds

A fine and rare large gilt brass pair-cased centre-seconds watch with a stop feature, made for the Chinese market, circa 1785. ‘Urn and Swag’ John Taylor London. Two-body case, outer case back engraved with a flower vase, bezels engraved with floral pattern. Inner case ‘bassine’ polished.
White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers. Gold beetle and poker hands. Hinged, frosted gilt full-plate movement with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock with ruby endstone, lever protruding from under the bezel at 9 o’clock for stopping the watch for precision time setting. Signed on the movement.
