Repoussé watch in shagreen case, probably by Joseph Rose
–
An English extremely decorative repoussé copper gilt triple-cased verge watch in a protective transport case made of shagreen, circa 1750.
This exquisite timepiece features a full plate movement, frosted and gilt for a luxurious finish. The chain/fusee mechanism ensures smooth operation, while the verge escapement and steel balance provide precise timekeeping. The balance bridge adds stability to the movement, and the silver regulator disc allows for accurate adjustments. The enamel dial is adorned with Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track, and decorative gold hands for easy readability. The watch comes with three cases: a transport case with copper gilt and silver accents, applied shagreen, and stud decoration; an outer case with copper gilt repoussé elaborate scene, secured with a large lateral hinge; and an inner case with a smooth copper gilt finish.
