A fine English 18k yellow gold and enamel pair cased verge watch made for the Turkish market, circa 1813, gilt movement, balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls forming initials of the maker, foliate pillars. White enamel dial, with Turkish numerals, the inner case hallmarked London, 1813 stamped with maker’s mark AN, polished finish, the outer centered by a medallion of polychrome enamel depicting a seascape inhabited by a ship on a stormy sea against a bright translucent sunrise, partly hallmarked bezel for 1813,bordered by opaque periwinkel blue enamel punctuated by a motif of rosettes and ovals decorated with tones of red, white and pink enamel, wavy translucent red enamel interior bezels.
