The watch in this special design is a unique piece and was probably commissioned by a noble house. It is a so-called mourning watch/ commemorative watch. The urn underneath the glazed front lid, which is embedded in hair, indicates this.

Justin Vulliamy was undoubtedly one of the best London watchmakers of his time. He had his numeral system and marked his movements with letters instead of numbers. His often simple but highly refined gold pocket watches are wanted collector’s items. Enamel watches by him are extremely rare.
