Superb pair cased verge pocket watch by George Graham

A very fine pair cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch of museum quality produced by one of the most important and influential watchmakers, circa 1716. The outer case is 22K gold, fine engraved and pierced edges, the back side ornamented with engraved birds and mythical creatures and 4 punched medallions with engraved baskets of summer flowers, on the front side 4 punched medallions engraved with Mediterranian town- and landscape scenes, in the centre a punched monogram medallion “OD” (Oley Douglas) with engraved volutes, shells, vases and raptorial birds, large lateral hinge. Inner case is also 22K gold, circumferential engraved birds, mythical creatures and flowers, pierced, signed movement protection cap, case makers punch mark “WS” (possibly William Sherwood). The dial is enamel, radial Roman hours, blued steel “Poker & Beetle” hands. Full plate movement, keywind, applied engraved ornaments, frosted, gilt, signed, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, 1 bell signed Robert Romley London, baluster movement pillars, blued screws, three-arm steel balance, very finely engraved pierced balance cock with the face of an angel, silver regulator disc, set diamond endstone.
