Gold pair cased repoussé watch by Jan Heijder

A splendid Dutch 22 carat gold pair cased repoussé verge pocket watch of high quality with date and repoussé decoration with a scene of Venus presenting arms to Aeneas, circa 1740. Frosted gilt full plate movement with square baluster pillars, worm wheel set up between the plates, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved balance cock with endstone, silver regulation disc.
Gold champlevé dial with date window at six o’clock and Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost five-minute Arabic numerals and original decorative steel hands.
Repoussé outer case, signed C. Wemmers fecit, decorated with a scene of Venus presenting arms to Aeneas, 22 carat gold polished inner case. The front bezel is decorated with animal vignettes (fish, dragon, dog and bird) representing the four elements and the bezel on the back side with portrait vignettes as personifications of the four seasons. Dial and movement signed. In very good original condition.
