An English yellow gold and enamel hunting cased triple perpetual calendar keyless chronograph watch with a portrait of the Maharaja Jarwat Singh II G.C.S.I. made for the Indian market, circa 1881, gilt three quarter plate lever movement.
White enamel dial, Roman numerals, subsidiary dials for constant seconds combined with an aperture for the moon-phases, day, date, month and leap year in English, outer track calibrated for the chronograph, gold and blued steel hands.
18k Yellow gold case, cover with polychrome enamel with the Arms of the Maharajah surrounded by a scene of steeple-chase, the inside with his portrait, rear cover with a polychrome enamel portrait of The Maharaja Jaswat Singh II.
surrounded by an enamel disc depicting horse racing, hinged engraved calotte crest to the center with G.C.S.I. insignia, surrounded by Urdu and Hindu inscription, ‘H.H. MAHARAJA JESWUNTSINGH, BAHADOOR, G.C.S.I. JODHPUR Dial and movement signed J. W. Benson, London, case with maker’s marks “AS” for Arnold Schaefli.

The Maharaja Jawat Singh II reigned from 1873 to 1895. In 1875 he was awarded the most exalted order of the Star of India and made Knight Grand Commander (G.C.S.I). 

In the last quarter of the 19th century, the family took to polo, pig-sticking and horse racing and became a force to be reckoned with.
