Gold open faced second morte lever watch
–
An English 18 carat yellow gold open faced pocket watch with independent deadbeat seconds made by F. Armstrong & Bouchet in Manchester, mid 19th century. It has a key wound mechanical movement with three quarter plate, chatonné jewels, spiral balance, and advance/delay adjustment racket. The plate is signed F Armstrong & Bouchet Manchester. The movement has three visible winding squares: one for adjusting hours and minutes, and two for the mainspring and independent deadbeat seconds mechanism. The white enamel dial shows Roman numerals for hours, a railway minute track, stylised hands, a small seconds hand, and a serpentine centre deadbeat seconds hand with a safety catch on the case middle. The round 18 carat yellow gold case has English guarantee hallmarks on the back and is entirely guilloché. The gold cuvette has three apertures for winding the hours and minutes, mainspring, and independent deadbeat seconds.
