Gold chronometer in pair cases
–
A heavy pocket chronometer made by William Reid in London, England, circa 1806. This numbered, high quality and especially heavy pair cased watch was crafted from 18 carat gold, has an engine turned back lid, relief bezels, the English hallmarks for 1806 and maker’s mark F.R.O. The white enamel dial is inscribed with Chronometer, has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds (hand missing) at 6 o’clock and pink gold hands. The incomplete and defective movement has an interesting English detent escapement in the manner of Arnold, a chronometer balance with two trapezoidal weights, two screw weights, a helical hairspring and a diamond end stone.
The movement is signed.
