One handed pendant watch by Isaac Symms
–
A fine English brass gilded, one handed, octagonal Renaissance pre balance spring pendant watch, circa 1620-1630.
This exquisite timepiece is a true work of art. The gilt brass case is adorned with intricate hand engravings depicting erotic scenes, creating a mesmerizing visual experience. The sides of the case are decorated with angels and flower tendrils, adding to the overall beauty of the piece. The brass dial is also a masterpiece in its own right. It features engravings of flowers and a silver chapter ring with radial Roman numerals. The centre of the dial showcases engravings of a landscape with a village, a church, and a river; all brought to life with a single blued steel hand. The octagonal shaped full plate movement is fire gilt and features a gut/fusee and verge escapement. The ratchet wheel is set up with a blued steel spring, while the two arm iron balance without spring ensures precise timekeeping. The florally engraved pierced balance cock adds yet another layer of elegance to this stunning timepiece.
