A splendid English 18 carat gold pair cased repoussé pocket watch with associated chatelaine made by Allen Walker in London, circa 1788. The repoussé outer case showing the mythological representation of Cleopatra’s banquet on the reverse, after a painting by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo from 1743 and a further smooth inner case, London hallmarked for 1788. Verge movement with a gentleman’s portrait, crossed arms and crown. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer arcaded minute track, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and the original hands. Dial and movement signed, and matching numbers on the case and movement. Comes with a fire gilded chatelaine with an extravagant winding key and a golden whistle.
