A very interesting, early English pair case verge watch with an extremely rare case and date, probably Jean Le Maire London, circa 1688. A silver pair case, very interesting outer case with tortoiseshell decoration and unusual silver inlays, representation of various animals like squirrels and birds, but also floral motifs, in between finest floral tendrils, extremely rare, plain inner case, master’s mark ID, back with hand engraving with crown and monogram P.Y.S and the year ’88, probably 1688, early verge movement with tulip pillars, plate very beautifully decorated, showing two lions as a symbol for the English Royal Coat of Arms, signed Le Maire London, signed original magnificent silver champleve dial, date aperture, gilt hands, in very beautiful condition, very interesting early English collector’s watch.
