Gold open faced watch by James Scott

A very fine English-heavy pair-cased pocket watch with chronometer escapement, circa 1800. The watch has two cases: the outer one is made of polished 18-carat gold with a droplet design, while the inner one is also polished 18-carat gold. The dial is made of enamel and has radial Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, and gold heart-shaped hands. The full plate movement is keywind, signed, gilt, and features a chain/fusee mechanism, circular pillars, a Z-balance with two weights and two screws, a free-sprung blued helical balance spring, a finely engraved balance cock, and a diamond endstone on the balance.

James Scott worked as a chronometer and watchmaker in Dublin from 1806 to around 1820. He was based at 38 Grafton Street. He came up with the idea of using palladium or platinum for a spiral spring. He also received a patent on May 11, 1820.
