Silver open faced verge pocket watch

An early single handed pair cased verge pocket watch, circa 1660.
The outer case is silver/brass, shagreen, stud decoration. Inner case is silver, full plate movement, gut/fusee, ratchet wheel set up with blued steel spring, two-arm iron balance without balance spring.  A silver dial, finely engraved scene of a seated shepherd.

Jeremie Gregory (1686) worked in London, Cornhill/Royal Exchange. He was a member of the Clockmakers  Company in 1652 and master in 1665. A maker of repute, a traveling clock by him is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, a silver alarm watch in the Guildhall Museum, and another in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
