Impressive watch with mock pendulum
–
An impressive early verge watch with mock pendulum, made by George Taylor in London, England, circa 1690. This watch features a double silver case: the outer case is decorated with exquisite repoussé work depicting portraits, mythical creatures and flower vases, while the inner case is plain. The original silvered dial features an hour track with Roman numerals and the original iron hand. The very rare early English movement is fitted with a verge escapement with tulip pillars and a mock pendulum.
The dial and movement are signed.

Taylor
George Taylor is not mentioned in pertinent literature before 1705, but the watch seems to have been made at least 15 years earlier. This assumption is supported by the very early hairspring and the single hand design.
